The Geological Condition of Karst Potential to
Develop the Geotourism in Enrekang Regency, South Sulawesi Province

Abstract
Enrekang
Regency is located in South Sulawesi Province and geographically located
between 3o14'56''–3o05'00''
South Latitude and 119o40'53''–120o06'33'' East
Longitude. Most of Enrekang Regency is dominated by karstic area. Geologically,
karst of Enrekang reegion is formed by Makale Formation, it is consisted of
Miocene carbonate rocks which has 75% distribution in the region. Some
potential of karstic area in Enrekang Regency are vertical and horizontal caves
with some caves are decorated with prehistorical paintings, sinkhole lakes and
underground rivers which formed in between karst rocks, and hills which
surrounded by steep karst walls. Diversity of phenomena of karstic area in Enrekang
Regency which have caves and active rivers inside of cave, hills and valleys
area with surrounded of karst walls, and other karstic phenomena can be a potential of geotourism in the Enrekang Regency, South Sulawesi
Province.
